Get Vibrant, y’all

Early Spring gives rise to a very specific set of cravings for me: brisk almost warm air and bright sunshine make me want flavors and textures that are equally bracing. I reach for the sharp, bitter, acidic, and aromatic with an extra-heavy hand this time of year, like I'm willing my own shoots skyward.

So the salad this week has all those eye-opening flavors: creamy, zingy, green garlic--all the aroma, none of the burn, and a nice green-grass flavor--dressing. Lightly pickled beets, with just enough vinegar to underline their sweetness. Shredded spring lettuces. Farro and walnuts; I can make a salad without whole grains and nuts, but not this week.

We're bringing back the coffee and cardamom brownies this week, because y'all love them, and they go so nicely with my invigorating, aromatic theme. The cardamom will be green instead of black--more perfumey, less smoky.

Finally, I want to take a minute to shout out the Lentil stew with smoked chicken sausage. We tweaked it last time around: it's still Pine Street Market's EXCELLENT smoked chicken sausage, with a base of slow-cooked tomatoes with onions, garlic, and ginger supporting hearty black lentils and greens. I think it best represents what we try to offer here at DFG: healthy but not light, with plenty of flavor, protein, and veggies. Food you want AND need.

ALSO! Pickup this week is available at Ponce City Market Farmers Market! It's the first week for this market in the shed along the Beltline, and whether or not you order (but you totally should), you should absolutely come by and say hello to me and all the other excellent vendors.

Have a great week y'all!
